Reviews of Canadian Credit Card and Loan Applications

American Express Canada

Posted in Canadian Credit Card Reviews by CanadianCreditGuy on the March 22nd, 2007

I have placed my reviews of American Express credit cards for Canadians on the main section of Crediteria.com as I am finding that perhaps I need to redesign the website as currently I have a Canadian flag at the upper right corner of the site. Maybe it’s not obvious to click that…

Anyway for those visiting Canada.Crediteria.com looking for my reviews of card offers for Canadians please check out my reviews of American Express card offers for my fellow canucks. Note that Amex requires that you have excellent credit to qualify for their cards so please avoid applying if your credit is anything but great. If you repeatedly apply for and get denied credit, other creditors will see that on your credit bureau report and will take into account that somebody else rejected you. Yes, being denied credit can impact your ability to get credit so choose what you apply for wisely.

Saving Money to Pay Down Your Credit Card Debt

I just had dinner with my friend Bob who is a mortgage broker. I was speaking with him because I just purchased a new home.

As we were discussing what a mortgage broker can do for you, I thought I should share this with you.

A mortgage broker will help you get the lowest rate mortgages. Once you refinance your home you will be paying less on your mortgage enabling you to pay more down on your “bad debt” such as credit card debt or other costly lines of credit.

If you managed to get by paying a higher rate on your mortgage continue to payout the same amount you were before only now you are getting ahead by chipping away at very costly credit card debt.

I know Bob personally and he has guided me to the best mortgage rates going. If you are struggling to pay bills or simply want to save some money make sure you visit his site, Low Cost Home Refinancing today . You can only gain with his service!

Royal Bank of Canada Review

Posted in RBC by CanadianCreditGuy on the December 16th, 2006

The first home I ever bought was a run-down townhouse on the very far edges of the Greater Vancouver area. I applied at the bank where I received my first credit card as a student. I believe it was called the ScotiaBank Student Classic so I figured I would apply for my first mortgage there. I applied and received the mortgage. Life was good.

A few years later, my first daughter was born and we needed more space. I was making more money. We shopped around for the lowest rate on a mortgage and found that TD Canada Trust at that time would give us the best rate going. That was in the year 2000. We moved into our new house and once again life was good.

More time passes, I have launched my own incredibly successful business working from home so yet an even bigger house was needed. Again, to save as much money on our mortgage we shopped around for the best rates and found that the Royal Bank of Canada (RBC) would give us the lowest rates on our new mortgage.

At that time I felt loyal to TD Canada Trust, so I contacted them to inform them that RBC would give us a better mortgage rate and I would stay with them if they matched or beat the rate offered by Royal Bank. My account representative at TD Bank said “no, you can’t get a better rate than what we are offering, you are lying to me.”

That was that, I have become a loyal RBC customer and will ALWAYS keep my banking there.

My account representative is amazing and helps in planning everything from business financing, RRSP’s, and personal budgeting.

Out of all the banks I have dealt with, Royal Bank wins my seal of approval. On a five star rating system, where five is the highest. Royal Bank receives six stars, yes they are that good!

What else I love about RBC:

  • My Royal Bank Avion Visa  for my business and personal use, earning me airmiles faster than ever.
  • The coffee they serve in the lobby
  • The people who work there
  •

What more can I ask for in a bank. Low rates, helpful advice and amazing people!

    RBC Avion Rewards Credit Card

Posted in Canadian Credit Card Reviews by CanadianCreditGuy on the December 13th, 2006

For the last 3 years I have been a cardholder of the RBC Avion Travel Rewards Card. Everytime I book my free travel I am reminded why I love my Avion points!

I have received countless offers to apply for other rewards cards but no thanks! The Avion card allows me to earn travel points very quickly.

Redeeming my points is incredibly simple too, I pick up the phone and dial 1-877-636-2870 and within about 10 minutes my travel plans are booked. That easy! No hassle, just free travel earned through my credit card spending.

While I say there is no hassle with redeeming points the only glitch I encountered when booking my last trip to Las Vegas was with the timing of my call.

It seems that the travel rewards redemption center closes at 6pm EST, I am located in the PST timezone which means the redemption center closes at 3pm my time.

I called at approximately 2:50pm and was at the point of waiting for my confirmation numbers for the trip when at 3:00pm the phone call was immediately dropped, I guess because they are now closed. It would be nice if they could fix that so the current call could be taken through to completion. So make note of that when calling to redeem your rewards points. Avoid that one frustration and the RBC Avion card is perfect for anybody who wants travel rewards.
